“The ITI Board placed a high priority on finding an accomplished leader with both direct experience in the transportation industry and experience in academia and industry organizations,” said Adriene Bailey, vice president of strategic business development for Yusen Logistics (Americas) Inc. – Transportation Division and ITI board chair. “We are extremely pleased with Bill’s selection as the new executive director, and we are confident he will build on the program’s existing strengths to further expand ITI’s value to our industry.”
DeWitt joined the Maine Maritime Academy in 2007 as associate dean and professor of logistics, where he was also responsible for the Loeb-Sullivan School of International Business & Logistics. Prior to that, he built his career holding progressively responsible positions with the University of Maryland, College Park, Md., the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Tenn., and Burlington Northern Railroad in Fort Worth, Texas.
Starting in 1972 as a management trainee for Burlington Northern Railroad in St. Paul, Seattle, and Vancouver, B.C., DeWitt has moved on through positions as planning analyst, director of strategic planning, director of intermodal marketing, assistant vice president marketing resources, president of Winona Bridge Railway Co., vice president of intermodal marketing and sales, and finally vice president forest products marketing and sales, Burlington Northern Railroad, through 1995 where he had $501 Million in revenue responsibility.
DeWitt is a lifetime member of the National Defense Transportation Association, the American Society of Transportation and Logistics, the Transportation Research Forum, and the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals among many others.
“We are delighted to have Bill DeWitt join ITI,” said Michael McGuire, interim dean of University College at the University of Denver. “His perspective and experience epitomize the collaborative spirit between leaders in both the transportation industry and higher education on which ITI is founded. He will be a great asset to furthering our mission to develop, educate and support the current and future leaders in the transportation industry.”
