    AB: LRT Lines Begin to Carry Live Electricty

    Starting April 8, city of Edmonton staff and contractors will begin powering up the overhead wires that will provide electricity to the trains on the Metro Line, the city’s LRT North LRT extension to NAIT.

    Starting April 8, city of Edmonton staff and contractors will begin powering up the overhead wires that will provide electricity to the trains on the Metro Line, the city’s LRT North LRT extension to NAIT.

    Once energized, the overhead wires will permanently carry live electricity and should be treated with caution.

    • Stay off the LRT tracks unless you’re using a designated crossing.
    • Keep all objects clear of the overhead wires.
    • If you see a fallen electrical wire or see an object on the wires, contact 911 immediately. Never try to touch or move it.

    The Metro Line is scheduled to open by the end of 2014.

    The Metro Line represents the next major step towards transforming Edmonton’s transportation system. It is expected to add 13,200 weekday riders to Edmonton’s LRT network and link major destinations like NAIT, the Royal Alexandra Hospital and MacEwan University to the rest of the network.
