On May 24, BART will host a sundown candlelight vigil at its Pittsburg/Bay Point Station to raise awareness of untreated post-traumatic stress among veterans.
Organized by a group co-founded by a BART electrician whose son was awarded the Medal of Honor for valor in Afghanistan, the vigil takes on added significance in light of the Department of Veterans Affairs controversy in Washington, D.C.
Operation Wounded Minds hopes the vigil will educate the public about the symptoms of post-traumatic stress and the resources available to veterans who are suffering.
