DC Metro Silver Line Ridership Off to Solid Start
Metro’s new Silver Line is off to a solid start, with nearly 220,000 trips taken to or from the five new stations during the first week of service (noon Saturday, July 26 through noon Sunday, August 3).
On average, 15,942 passengers boarded a Silver Line train at one of the five new stations each weekday last week — roughly two-thirds of the way to achieving the project’s goal of 25,000 weekday boardings after one year of service.
Between 8,000 and 9,000 of the boardings at Silver Line stations were existing Metrorail customers who switched from the Orange Line to one of the five new stations. The balance of approximately 6,000 boardings represents new ridership.
Weekday ridership totals (entries/exits) for the five new stations — McLean, Tysons Corner, Greensboro, Spring Hill and Wiehle-Reston East — are provided below:

Silver Line rail service began at noon on Saturday, July 26 with the departure of the inaugural train from Wiehle-Reston East Station in Fairfax County, Virginia, bound for Largo Town Center in Prince George’s County, Maryland.
The new rail line is the largest expansion of Metrorail — and the first time a new color has been added to the Metro map — since the Green Line opened in 1991.
