Miami-Dade Transit and Miami-Dade Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Departments join Friends of The Underline to announce that the New York design consulting firm James Corner Field Operations was selected to develop the vision and Master Plan for The Underline.
The future 10-mile Underline corridor, running below Miami-Dade’s Metrorail from the Miami River to Dadeland South Station, will create a linear park that will enhance connectivity, mobility, and biking safety for hundreds of thousands of Miami-Dade residents and visitors. The design team will also provide more detailed designs for two demonstration projects that will include the Brickell area and an additional site to be determined.
James Corner Field Operations was selected from an impressive field of 19 applicants. The design firm has been touted as one of the most influential design firms by Time magazine and is renowned for such high-profile projects as the New York City High Line, Tongva Park in Santa Monica, Seattle’s Central Waterfront, and South Park of London's Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
During The Underline design process, public meetings will be held to ensure residents and business owners can voice their opinions and provide their input.
Master planning and preliminary design for the demonstration projects are expected to be completed by September 2015.
