Groundbreaking Ceremony Scheduled for Smart Growth Initiative
Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett will join EYA President Bob Youngentob and EYA Vice President of Land Acquisition and Development McLean Quinn to break ground for the Westside at Shady Grove Metro development.
This is another of Leggett’s Smart Growth Initiative projects that is revitalizing an old industrial area by creating an urban village near the Shady Grove Metro station. More than 90 acres of former industrial and warehouse use will become a transit-oriented, mixed-income neighborhood – and the first redevelopment project under the initiative.
EYA has begun sales for 407 town homes that will be built in the transit-oriented community. In addition to market rate homes, the neighborhood will include moderately priced dwelling units (MPDU) and workforce housing residences. Many amenities will be available for residents’ use: swimming pool, clubhouse, outdoor lounge, fitness center, dog park, garden, open parks and walking paths and onsite Metro access. In addition, Westside will include more than 1,000 rental homes, 131,000 sq. ft. of office space, and a total of 41,828 sq. ft. of retail space.
