CDM Smith was recently selected by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) for two distinct 3-year, $5 million contracts in support of FDOT’s Systems Planning Office and Office of Freight, Logistics and Passenger Operations, respectively.
FDOT’s Systems Planning Office chose CDM Smith to provide on-call services for its Strategic Intermodal System (SIS) contract—the department’s largest program for transportation capacity expansion spending in the state. The SIS is a statewide network of high-speed, high-capacity highways, railroads, waterways, airports, seaports, spaceports and transit facilities. It is regarded as a national model for its ability to seamlessly integrate these modes, move people and freight efficiently, and leverage local and private funds for improvements. This selection marks the fourth consecutive time that CDM Smith has won the contract over the last 10 years.
CDM Smith staff will work side-by-side with FDOT to create the SIS Funding Strategy, supporting future improvements and growth. In addition to looking at cost and schedule, CDM Smith will be employing its Strategic Investment Tool, developed specifically for FDOT, to help prioritize projects based on their need and benefit to the state. Other tasks may include future scenario planning around population growth and increases in freight traffic, as well as development of training and promotional materials.
