The Atlanta Streetcar is celebrating a significant milestone, after reaching a historic number of riders during the city of Atlanta’s annual Fourth of July holiday weekend.
The Atlanta Streetcar successfully operated on a modified schedule and route on July 4, to accommodate the fireworks celebration at Centennial Olympic Park, with more than 7,225 passengers boarding the Streetcar for the festivities in the city. Overall, the Streetcar carried 20,054 passengers through the Auburn Avenue and Centennial Olympic Park corridor from July 3, to July 5.
“Celebrating the Fourth of July in Centennial Olympic Park is an Atlanta tradition, and with this milestone weekend with historic ridership numbers and operational excellence, riding the Atlanta Streetcar will become part of this tradition,” said Mayor Kasim Reed.
The Atlanta Streetcar began transporting riders on Dec. 30, as part of a grand vision for a new era of transit. It is designed to transform mobility and connectivity of communities and businesses within in the city of Atlanta. Since opening day, more than 400,000 people have taken a ride on the Streetcar to visit tourist and cultural attractions, go shopping or dine at one of the restaurants along the route.
