Point of Entry Policing Leads to Guns Arrest

Sept. 24, 2015

On Sept. 22, at approximately 6 p.m., Transit Police officers were conducting Point of Entry Policing at the MBTA's Downtown Crossing station. While there officers observed a male, later identified as Tyrrell Williams, 19, of Winthrop fare evade by "piggybacking" in behind a paying customer. Officers approached Williams for the purpose of issuing a citation. Almost immediately upon approach of the officers Williams fled back through the fare gates and proceeded to run up the exit stairs towards Summer Street. Officers pursued Williams and were able to stop him half way up the stairs.

Recovered from Williams' person was a fully loaded Smith & Wesson .32 caliber handgun. Officers subsequently discovered Williams was not duly licensed to carry a handgun in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Williams was placed into custody and transported to Transit Police HQ for the arrest booking process. It is expected Williams will be arraigned sometime today in Boston Municipal Court-Central Division for various firearm violations.
