VIA Wellness Program Honored with City Gold-Level Award
The San Antonio Business Group on Health, in collaboration with the Mayor’s Fitness Council, has awarded VIA Metropolitan Transit a Gold-level award in the Healthy Workplace Recognition Award Program. This is the first time VIA has received the Gold level for this award. In 2012, VIA had secured the Bronze-level recognition, followed by two successive years of Silver-level awards.
“Our efforts to promote healthy living are embodied in the VIA Thrive Wellness Program, which encourages our employees to engage in regular exercise, adopt healthy eating habits, be informed about health issues, and improve their overall well-being,” said Jeffrey C. Arndt, VIA president and CEO. “This award reaffirms our serious commitment to employee health and wellness.”
The Healthy Workplace effort recognizes San Antonio businesses that work to improve the health of their employees through worksite wellness initiatives. To qualify, employers must demonstrate support of wellness programs and provide examples of company culture that encourage health and wellness.
The VIA Thrive Wellness Program began in January 2009 to improve the quality of life for VIA employees through education, activity, empowerment, and support. It has received ongoing recognition by a variety of organizations for its continued proven success.
