STM Announces Viau Station Project

Jan. 18, 2016

The Executive Committee of the city of Montreal has approved a debt settlement $ 54,522,892 to fund the expansion of the attachment of the Centre Viau Montreal Transit Corp.

This project will expand the capacity of the underground center, where the vehicles are parked responsible for the maintenance of the subway at night, in order to increase reception capacity of six additional convoys. This will lessen vehicles travel time and thus optimize network maintenance. The entrance and exit of the building materials will be done at this point rather than just the attachment Youville Centre, located in the north of the city.

Six new trains, each consisting of a rechargeable electric vehicle and a work platform, will also be acquired as part of this project.

The STM will benefit from the expansion of its attachment center to perform major repair of Viau station and to ensure its universal accessibility by adding two elevators, respectively projects evaluated at $ 13.8 million and 8, $ 1 million.

"The investments made by our Administration to Viau station are part of our efforts to make Montreal a sustainable mobility metropolis. Indeed, in addition to guaranteeing the maintenance of the metro infrastructure, work will make public transit more accessible and reduce our greenhouse gas emissions, increasing the electrical capacity necessary for vehicle electrification work " , said Aref Salem, responsible for transportation to the Executive Committee of the City of Montreal.

"Run these projects simultaneously, namely the expansion of the center of attachment, the rehabilitation of the station and its accessibility, can significantly reduce costs and impacts on local residents. This is a responsible and rigorous project management decision that saves some $15 million, "said Mr. Philippe Schnobb, chairman of the STM.
