Rail Fun Day Generates Record Ridership on Tri-Rail
More passengers rode Tri-Rail on Saturday, Jan. 30, 2016 than on any other weekend day in the 27-year history of the system. The South Florida Regional Transportation Authority (SFRTA), which operates Tri-Rail, reported that the train carried 8,795 riders on Saturday, many of whom were responding to the annual Rail Fun Day. Now in its 8th year, Rail Fun Day is set aside for families to enjoy fun, food, and festivities. The passenger count represents a 35 percent increase over the average Saturday ridership of 6,498.
“Rail Fun Day continues to be one of the SFRTA’s most eagerly anticipated signature events. It combines the excitement of a train ride with a myriad of activities for families to enjoy together. Every year it just keeps getting bigger and better and of course it helped that Saturday was an absolutely gorgeous winter day,” said Jack Stephens, SFRTA executive director.
