    NY: Saratoga and Pennsylvania Av 3 Line Stations Set to Re-open Monday

    As renewal projects at the Saratoga Av and Pennsylvania Av 3 line stations near completion, MTA New York City Transit will reopen the stations at 5:00 a.m. Monday, September 19.

    As renewal projects at the Saratoga Av and Pennsylvania Av 3 line stations near completion, MTA New York City Transit will reopen the stations at 5:00 a.m. Monday, September 19. The two stations were closed for renewal work on April 11, 2016 as part of an $88 million capital project to rehabilitate seven elevated stations along the 3 line on the New Lots Av Branch. During the closures, customers were able to take advantage of free shuttle bus service. Improvements at both stations include the installation of brand new windscreens, platform lighting, benches, trash receptacles, guard rails and ADA tactile warning strips on the platforms. Both stations were painted and the fare control areas were reconfigured to enable better customer flow. Structural renovations include the installation of new columns, platform rubbing boards, and new mezzanine floors. While service at these stations will be restored, there is still work to be completed, including the installation of new windows, and a new exterior façade to the mezzanine.

    “Governor Cuomo’s leadership has helped provide funding for the MTA’s Capital Program, which helps fuel our station renewal program, in Brooklyn and throughout our system,” said NYC Transit President Veronique “Ronnie” Hakim. “The completion of work at Saratoga Av and Pennsylvania Av and planned work at the other stations will provide a welcoming atmosphere for our customers bringing seven stations that originally opened in the 1920’s to a state of good repair.”

    The construction contracts awarded to EE Cruz Company Inc. call for station renewals at Sutter Av-Rutland Rd, Saratoga Av, Rockaway Av, Junius St, Pennsylvania Av and Van Siclen Av, as well as component repairs at New Lots Av. Renewal work was previously completed at Rockaway Av and Van Siclen Av in March 2016.

    The next two stations scheduled to close for renewal along the New Lots Branch are Sutter Av-Rutland Rd and Junius St. Work is tentatively scheduled to begin at these two stations on October 3, 2016 for approximately five months, until Spring 2017. During this period, 3 trains and late night 4 trains will bypass Sutter Av-Rutland Rd and Junius St in both directions.

    Similar to the previous temporary station closures during this project, New York City Transit will operate free shuttles buses to and from the Sutter Av-Rutland Rd and Junius St stations. The shuttle bus for Sutter Av-Rutland Rd will operate to and from the Crown Heights-Utica Av 34 station and the bus for Junius St will operate to and from the Rockaway Av 3 station. Service notices will be posted in all stations prior to the commencement of work, and announcements will be made on trains.
