Irwin Transportation Products has signed a licensing and exclusive distribution deal with Elektroline, a Prague, Czech Republic-based manufacturer of switching and signaling systems for light rail vehicles (LRVs), as well as overhead contact lines for trams, trolleys and buses.
“This acquisition broadens our ability to supply public transit systems throughout North America with quality rail switching, signaling and control equipment,” says William Baker, president and CEO of Irwin Car and Equipment. “Elektroline’s electro-hydraulic point machine, Vetra train to wayside communication (TWC) system and full array of signaling solutions reinforces our position as a single source for transit switching and communication systems.”
Elektroline products complement Irwin’s T-3 Switch Machine, which is ideal for embedded streetcar and light rail transit (LRT) applications, and can be mounted between or outside of rails, as well as actuated with DC traction or rectified AC utility voltage. Irwin’s signals and controls aid in the smooth flow of traffic in shared automobile and trolley applications.
Elektroline products also enhance the ability of VECOM USA to serve its customers. VECOM USA is a Tampa-based division of Irwin Transportation Products that manufactures TWC systems and train digital warning systems (TDSG). TWC systems include VETAG (one-way) and VECOM (two-way) train to wayside communication. The TDSG alerts traffic and passengers when arriving and departing a stop and when crossing intersections.
