Messe Berlin's Turnover Has Increased for Tenth Year Running
Messe Berlin can look back on the most successful business year in the company’s history. With turnover forecast to reach around 308 million euros ($326 million), Berlin’s trade fair company is due to exceed the 300 million euro mark for the first time. In 2014, a year with a similar number of events, Messe Berlin achieved a turnover of 270 million euros. Thus, the company’s turnover has increased for the tenth year running and has almost doubled within a decade. In 2016 business in the capital and its surrounding region benefited from exhibitors and visitors from out of town who attended the trade fairs and congresses and boosted spending by around 1.7 billion euros. The Land of Berlin’s public revenues derived directly from all sources amounted to 74 million euros.

According to the latest projections, in 2016 more than 2.2 million visitors from around the world visited a total of 111 in-house and guest events. Over 32,000 exhibitors from Germany and abroad, in all representing more than 182 countries, occupied an overall display area in excess of 2.3 million square metres and provided a comprehensive overview of the latest products and services from a wide range of sectors. In 2016 a total of 30,000 members of the press from all over the world obtained accreditation for shows at Messe Berlin, proving that the mega events on the Berlin Exhibition Grounds are spectacles for the media as well.
Trade fairs at Messe Berlin such as IFA, ITB Berlin, FRUIT LOGISTICA, InnoTrans and the International Green Week Berlin. all globally recognised events, once again underlined their standing as international leaders in their respective sectors for exhibiting product innovations, services and technologies.
Messe Berlin’s congress business, in particular the events held in the CityCube Berlin, ensure that Berlin maintains its leading position as a venue for conference events. According to the latest statistics of the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA), for the first time Berlin has become the world’s number one organiser of international conferences. This ranking is one of the industry’s most important indicators and in many cases significantly influences the decision to award large-scale congresses.
