Following the conclusion of Artscape, the Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration has announced it will partially shut down the Light RailLink system for 18 days beginning July 25 for critical maintenance work. Officials are urging riders to plan ahead and use free shuttle buses to help get them where they need to go.

"Nothing is more important than our customers’ safety," said Acting MDOT MTA Administrator Kevin Quinn. "We will do everything possible to minimize the inconvenience to our customers during these necessary repairs. Please plan ahead and allow more time for your travel while we complete this critical rail work to enhance the safety, efficiency and reliability of our service."

From 4 a.m. on Tuesday, July 25, to midnight on Friday, August 11, MDOT MTA Light RailLink will close the section between the North Avenue and Camden Yards stations in both directions. Light RailLink service to Penn Station also will close. MDOT MTA will install a "bus bridge" along the entire length of the closed sections of the Light RailLink system to serve each of the affected Light RailLink stations. A separate service will provide a shuttle from Penn Station to the North Avenue Light RailLink station. Maintenance work will include necessary rail replacement and track maintenance.

During the closure, MDOT MTA will provide local and express shuttle buses between the Light RailLink system and all the affected stations. This service will be provided during all days/hours Light RailLink is regularly in service. No bikes will be permitted to travel on the bus bridge vehicles.

To speed up the commute for our riders connecting to MARC, express shuttle service will run directly to/from North Avenue to Camden Yards without stopping at other stations. Local shuttle buses will stop at each of the affected stations in both directions from North Avenue to Camden Yards.

With no Light RailLink service being provided to/from Penn Station, a shuttle will serve passengers traveling to/from Penn Station to the North Avenue Light RailLink Station. The free shuttle bus service will run at 10-, 20- and 30-minute intervals based on the time of day.

Customers traveling to the North Avenue or Camden Yards stations should exit the Light RailLink station and proceed to the street level where a team of transit ambassadors will help customers locate the local and express bus boarding areas.
