Semaines de la mobilité: STM Highlights Health Benefits of Public Transit

Sept. 28, 2017
To mark Semaines de la mobilité, or mobility week, STM held a special activity in 10 métro stations during morning and afternoon rush hour on September 28, 2017, to highlight the health benefits of public transportation use.

Using the stairs in the métro is one of the healthier choices with public transit. Not only is it an excellent way to stay in shape, they are convenient and accessible to all. For this reason, STM identified some stairs and posted the number of steps to climb in several métro stations. The 100 percent more active challenge lets you get your daily exercise, while you embrace public transportation in your way of life.

To that end, STM has placed new "un parcours 100 percent plus actif" stickers in the métro to promote physical activity: in all, 16 colorful corridors extending over 1060 meters and 38 staircases with 1679 steps to go up or down in 22 stations along the Orange, Green and Blue lines.

Keep in mind that an average public transit user walks some 2 km in their day, which is equal to a 30-minute walk.
