RTD E, F and R Light Rail Service Restored Monday at Lincoln and County Line Stations

The existing Regional Transportation District’s service and the new 2.3-mile extension of the E, F and R lines south of Lincoln Station are now tied in. Working around the clock for nine full days, the project team completed the work on schedule, allowing Lincoln and County Line stations to reopen on Monday, March 26.

During the closure, crews removed approximately 1,600 feet of existing track and rail, as well as Overhead Contact System (OCS) poles and wires, conduit and other utilities; then reconstructed the line from the ground up, creating a completely reconfigured track.

Since Lincoln Station will no longer be the end of the line, when the Southeast Rail Extension project is complete, crews reconfigured the track to include a “pocket track,” or third track to be used for storing extra train cars. The new “tail tracks,” where trains will turn around, will be at RidgeGate Station.

The Southeast Rail Extension project is part of RTD’s 2004 voter-approved FasTracks plan to expand rapid transit across the Denver metro region. The project will extend the Southeast Rail Line from Lincoln Station to RidgeGate Station. Systems and testing work is planned to take place on the Southeast Rail Extension through 2018, and the line is scheduled to open for service in 2019.
