From September 18 to 21, exhibitors representing the global industry’s entire value chain will be gathered at InnoTrans 2018. In addition to a wide range of products and services in the segments Railway Technology, Railway Infrastructure, Public Transport and Interiors, trade visitors can also look forward to innovative tunnel construction technology. Exhibitors in the Tunnel Construction segment will also be showcasing their new products, evolutionary designs and latest services and portfolios in Hall 5.2. Key topics will include construction, fire safety, maintenance, cleaning and safety systems.
What characterizes this segment is the high level of international participation, with exhibitors from Egypt, China, Sweden, Switzerland and Spain among those present. This year, SangSangDom and Seoul Metro from the Republic of Korea as well as Ultra Fog from the UK are newcomers to the world's leading trade fair for transport technology.
SangSangDom’s specialty is non-invasive measurement and inspection systems which can be employed in difficult situations. GEODATA Engineering, an international engineering company from Italy, focuses on the planning, monitoring and management of building underground structures and infrastructures. Herrenknecht AG, from Baden-Württemberg in Germany, markets state-of-the-art tunneling equipment for every environment ranging from 0.10 to 19 meters in diameter. Talleres Zitron, a company from Spain, supplies ventilation systems for rail and road tunnels, mines, metro lines and other construction projects underground.
Located next to the Tunnel Construction exhibits in Hall 5.2 is the closely related Railway Infrastructure segment, where construction and rail infrastructure companies including Spitzke, Porr, Strabag Rail, Leonhard Weiss and BBL Bahnbau Lüneburg will be showcasing their products.
Innovations on display at InnoTrans 2018
At InnoTrans, Tunnel Construction innovations on display will include new tubular LED lighting units from BöSha, a company from North Rhine-Westphalia, which are purpose-built for the relevant applications. NightSearcher from the UK will present its latest handheld Pro-Star search- and flood light with an output of 8,000 lumens, which was designed especially for search and rescue operations and use at crime scenes. With its innovative fire insulation features, the swibox cabinet designed by the Swiss company bearing the same name ensures that the area surrounding the cabinet is protected from any electrical fire outbreak inside.
Exchanging knowledge on tunnel construction topics
Once again, on days two and three of the trade fair, accompanying the exhibition in Hall 5.2 will be the International Tunnel Forum at the CityCube Berlin, which is organised by the German Research Association for Underground Transportation (STUVA). On 19 September 2018, from 2.00 p.m. to 4.00 p.m. a panel discussion will be held on the subject of ‘Long-term targets in tunneling: investment strategies for construction and refurbishment’. Taking part in the discussion will be representatives of the city of Cologne, ÖBB-Infrastruktur AG, DB Netz AG and the Association of German Transport Companies (VDV).
On 20 September, also from 2.00 p.m. to 4.00 p.m. at the CityCube Berlin, a panel discussion will debate ’Current challenges in tunneling and tunnel operation’. Representatives of Mott MacDonald, an established company from the UK, Deutsche Einheit Fernstraßenplanungs- und -bau GmbH, Wayss & Freytag Ingenieurbau AG and Ramboll GmbH are expected to attend.
