The Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit District Board of Directors voted to approve several items that would allow the work for the extension to Windsor to move forward.
Modern Railway Systems was awarded the contract to design and construct the train control, communications system and platform communications elements for the project. MRS has been a key contractor in the implementation of the SMART system.
The project requires railway improvements, including reconstructing track and grade crossings, constructing a station platform, replacing trestle bridges, constructing a park and ride lot and the extending of the Positive Train Control signaling, radio, and communication systems.
The connection to Windsor is the next step to completing the full 70-mile vision, which includes service to Windsor, Healdsburg, and Cloverdale.
