The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority will be presenting refined concepts for the Sepulveda Transit Corridor Project at a series of upcoming community meetings.

The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority will be presenting refined concepts for the Sepulveda Transit Corridor Project at a series of upcoming community meetings beginning later this month. The public is encouraged to attend and participate in the planning of this key transit project.

Metro is now conducting a feasibility study to evaluate a wide range of high-capacity transit alternatives between the San Fernando Valley and Westside, one of Southern California’s most congested transportation corridors. More than 400,000 people travel through the project study area every day to commute to work, school and other destinations along the freeway and beyond.

The study is divided into two areas: A Valley-Westside segment and a Westside-LAX segment. Metro first presented a wide array of rail, alignment and station location concepts for the Valley-Westside segment last June. After gathering input and more study, Metro will show more developed concepts at these meetings for the San Fernando Valley-Westside connection and initial concepts for the Westside-LAX connection. The concepts will also show how the Sepulveda Transit Corridor Project could connect to other transit lines in the Valley.

The community meetings will be held:

  • Wednesday, January 30, 2019, 6–8 p.m., Westwood Presbyterian Church, Hoffman Hall, 10822 Wilshire Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90024.
  • Saturday, February 2, 2019, 10 a.m.–12 p.m., Marvin Braude Constituent Service Center, 6262 Van Nuys Boulevard, Van Nuys, CA 91401.
  • Tuesday, February 5, 2019, 6–8 p.m., Proud Bird Restaurant, Aviator Room, 11022 Aviation Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90045.

Information presented will be the same at all meetings. A formal presentation will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the weeknight meetings and 10:30 a.m. at the Saturday meeting.

All Metro meetings are held in ADA accessible facilities. Spanish translation will be provided. Other ADA accommodations and translations are available by calling 323-466-3876 or the California Relay Service at 711 at least 72 hours in advance.

The feasibility study, which began in December 2017, is expected to conclude this fall. The study’s findings will be the basis for the formal environmental studies.

The project is largely funded by Measure M, the transportation sales tax approved by Los Angeles County voters in 2016. The project will receive $9.8 billion in sales tax funding with the first phase between the Valley and the Westside scheduled to open in 2033. The project may be expedited through a public-private partnership, potentially within the next decade as part of Metro’s Twenty-Eight by '28 Initiative to accelerate priority projects in time for the 2028 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games in the Los Angeles area.
