Caltrain cuts fares 50 percent in April, resumes regular weekday service

April 4, 2022
As public events return to the Peninsula, Caltrain is on hand to help riders reach these destinations.

Caltrain fares are being reduced by 50 percent during April, which applies to all fares except the Go Pass.

“As the region continues to recover from the lingering impacts of the pandemic, we want to remind the public that Caltrain is the travel mode of choice for so many great Bay Area destinations,” said Caltrain Acting Executive Director Michelle Bouchard. “By reducing our fares for the month of April we can reward our existing customers for their loyalty and encourage the next generation of public transportation riders to use Caltrain for their travelling needs.”

Passengers can take Caltrain to a wide range of destinations, while enjoying expanded service for events such as Giants games with special post-game service. Oracle Park, the Chase Center, Levi’s Stadium, Avaya Stadium and the SAP Center are easily accessible through Caltrain, as are multiple downtowns complete with movie theaters, restaurants, shopping destinations, art and wine festivals and more. As public events return to the Peninsula, Caltrain is on hand to help riders reach these destinations.

In addition to the reduced fares, Caltrain resumed running its regular, 104-train schedule.

On March 2, the agency announced a scheduled service reduction to accommodate Caltrain Electrification signal work in San Mateo and Burlingame. That project was briefly delayed due to a March 10 train collision with on track equipment, and Caltrain utilized the reduced schedule to help with cleanup and service restoration efforts.

While Caltrain restored regular service on April 4, the agency will once again reduce train levels from May 2–May 20 to complete the originally planned Caltrain Electrification signal work in San Mateo and Burlingame. Regular weekday service will resume once again on May 23.
