Components for CTA’s 7000 Series cars arriving in Chicago
CRRC Sifang America’s (CRRC) newly completed passenger railcar manufacturing facility on Chicago’s southside has begun accepting deliveries from U.S. manufacturers of railcar components that will be used in the production of the new 7000 Series passenger railcars for the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA).
Production of the 7000 Series railcars for the CTA is scheduled to begin this summer, using a majority of components sourced from U.S. suppliers. A pre-award audit found CRRC is sourcing approximately 70% of the total cost of the railcar components from U.S. manufacturers, far exceeding the contract’s Buy America requirement.
“Having recently completed the facility, we have transitioned quickly to manufacturing the 7000 Series railcars for the Chicago Transit Authority,” said Marina Popovic, Human Resources Director & Chief Legal Counsel for CRRC Sifang America. “The production floor and warehouse are busy receiving and sorting components from the various U.S. suppliers that will be used to build the railcars.”
CRRC is currently working with more than 25 U.S. suppliers located across the country, who manufacture specialized components for passenger railcars.
