The Liberty Streetcar is an articulated streetcar vehicle with automatic leveling for low-floor boarding and a battery onboard energy storage system (OESS) to provide off-wire capabilities. Featuring more than 70 percent low-floor area, rail-proven technologies and modern amenities, the American designed and manufactured Liberty Streetcar currently operates in four U.S. cities. The second generation of the Liberty Streetcar, dubbed the Liberty NXT, is currently in production and slated to begin U.S. operation in Tempe, Ariz., with Tacoma, Wash., and Portland, Ore., soon to follow.
