FDOT awards HART $700,000 through Commuter Assistance Grant
The Hillsborough Transit Authority (HART) received $700,000 through the Florida Department of Transportation's (FDOT) Commuter Assistance grant.
The FDOT grant will permit HART’s TECO Line Streetcar to remain fare-free for an additional year. The TECO Line Streetcar has been fare-free since 2018 when HART was awarded $2.7 million Innovation Grant by the FDOT. This allowed for streetcar services to expand services with increased frequency and service hours.
"HART is very excited to receive this FDOT grant to keep the TECO Line Streetcar fare-free," said HART Interim CEO Scott Drainville. "HART appreciates the continued support of Secretary Gwynn and FDOT staff in identifying grant funding for the Streetcar."
In addition to FDOT, the TECO Line Streetcar is funded by the city of Tampa, the Downtown Community Redevelopment Areas, and the Tampa Downtown Partnership. HART will work with the partners to identify funding to continue Streetcar fare-free services.
The TECO Line Streetcar System has carried more than 1 million trips so far in Fiscal Year 2023.
