MTA's Metro-North Railroad contracts Siemens Mobility for six more Dual Mode locomotives
Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s (MTA) Metro-North Railroad will be receiving six additional Dual Mode locomotives from Siemens Mobility. The order builds upon the initial purchase of 27 Siemens Mobility Dual Mode locomotives in 2020.
“With our Siemens Mobility North American headquarters in the heart of New York City, we’re excited that these sustainable locomotives will transport millions of passengers a year, including our own employees,” stated Michael Cahill, president of Rolling Stock, Siemens Mobility North America. “This order continues to build on our relationship with the MTA, which includes not only delivering sustainable locomotives, but also world class signaling and rail automation technologies.”
The new Dual Mode locomotives, to be delivered progressively through 2027, are set to replace Metro-North Railroad's GE P32AC-DM locomotives, which have either reached or exceeded their projected 25-year lifespan. The contract awarded to Siemens Mobility encompasses a total of up to 171 Dual Mode locomotives including all potential options.
