BART to begin installing next generation fare gates at multiple stations

Oct. 23, 2024
The installation of next generation fare gates at three more stations comes following the success of installation of the fare gates at other stations throughout the system, as BART plans to install next generation fare gates at all stations by the end of 2025.

Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) has started installing next generation fare gates at multiple stations. The agency will begin installing the next generation fare gates beginning the week of Oct. 27 at Coliseum Station before beginning installation on the fare gates on the concourse level on Montgomery Station Oct. 28 and on the concourse level of Powell Street Station Nov. 1.

The agency notes the installation process is expected to take approximately two weeks to complete at each station. During construction, there will be a barrier around the existing station gate array. BART notes riders will use two temporary accessible gates to enter and exit the stations. The removal of the old gates and installation of the new gates will not impact train service, but BART says riders may experience a few minutes in waiting time to pass through the temporary gates during peak travel hours.

The installation of next generation fare gates at three more stations comes following the success of installation of the fare gates at other stations throughout the system. The agency says all stations will have new fare gates by the end of 2025.
