Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (Metro) Transit Police have charged Ali Anthony Jovan, 36, of Fairfax, VA, with first degree murder, second degree murder and carrying a dangerous weapon with intent to injure in connection with a fatal stabbing outside Addison Road Metrorail Station yesterday evening.
At about 7:18 p.m. Wednesday, July 20, Metro Transit Police and Prince George's Police officers who were present at Addison Road Station responded to the scene of a stabbing that had just occurred in the bus bay area outside the station. Witnesses pointed out the suspect to the officers, who gave chase and were able to apprehend the suspect as he attempted to flee.
The victim suffered fatal injuries. He was pronounced at the scene.
Subsequent investigation revealed that the suspect and victim became involved in a verbal altercation that escalated to physical and resulted in the suspect stabbing the victim in the chest area with a "switch blade style" knife. The weapon was recovered at the scene.
The victim has been identified as Vontrel Laarius McDaniel, 35, of Northeast Washington, DC.
