Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority Transit Police have arrested Opal L. Brown, 38, of Southeast Washington, DC, for assaulting a Metrobus operator by throwing her own urine on Saturday, August 28, 2017.

Brown was arrested by MTPD detectives at L’Enfant Plaza Metro Station shortly before noon on August 30.

According to police, Brown was riding an X2 Metrobus on Saturday evening. Shortly before 6 p.m. on-board digital cameras captured Brown relieving herself into a cup toward the rear of the bus. As the bus arrived at Minnesota Ave and Benning Road, NE, at 6:14 p.m. Brown approached the front of the bus and stood in the aisle holding the cup for a short period of time. When the bus arrived at the stop at Minnesota and Benning, Brown threw the urine around the protective shield and onto the bus operator. Brown then fled the scene.

The bus operator, an adult female, was taken to a local hospital to be decontaminated.

All Metrobuses are equipped with digital video systems that are constantly recording when the bus is in service. In addition, hundreds of Metrobuses have been equipped with protective shields that are intended to help protect bus operators from assaults.
