Sept. 15, 2017
Metro Transit Police are investigating a carjacking that occurred this evening at Southern Avenue Metrorail Station.

Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority Transit Police are investigating a carjacking that occurred this evening at Southern Avenue Metrorail Station.

The incident occurred shortly after 5 p.m. in the parking garage at the station. The adult male victim was approached by three individuals who assaulted him and stole his vehicle, a Jeep Renegade.

MTPD officers responded, provided aid to the victim, and immediately began an area canvas. The stolen vehicle was successfully located by MTPD officers — unoccupied — a short distance from the station.

The victim was transported to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries sustained during the incident.

Three persons of interest  – all of whom are believed to be juveniles — were captured on Metro’s digital surveillance cameras. MTPD is withholding the images due to the apparent age of the individuals. However, all are described as black males who were wearing backpacks at the time of the incident. One is described as having a stocky build and was wearing a maroon hoodie. A second male with a thin build was wearing a sleeveless black hoodie over a red or maroon t-shirt and khaki-colored pants.

Anyone who may have information regarding this incident is urged to call the MTPD Criminal Investigations Division at (301) 955-5000 or text MyMTPD (696873).
