Palm Tran has recognized Bus Operator Thomas Guthy for his quick-thinking and superior driving skills that prevented the death of a pedestrian.

The incident was captured by surveillance cameras on board Operator Guthy’s bus.

On May 6, 2017, a woman fell in front of a Palm Tran bus being driven by Operator Guthy in West Palm Beach near Clematis Street and Olive Street.  Operator Guthy’s quick reaction enabled him to stop the bus and avoid hitting the pedestrian.  He immediately called for help and checked on the safety of others on board the bus.  Remarkably, no one was seriously injured in the incident.

Operator Guthy is now being recognized by Palm Tran management for his commitment to safety.  A photo of Operator Guthy with Palm Tran Director of Operations Sean K. Smith (left) and Palm Tran Executive Director Clinton B. Forbes (right) is also included in the video.  The photo is from Palm Tran’s Management Leadership Team meeting on October 20, 2017.
