Metra warned potential job applicants about a scam by individuals claiming to be Metra representatives and offering jobs at the agency in exchange for cash payment. This is fraudulent and illegal. Metra does not have any program requiring payment of money for employment.
Metra has recently heard about job seekers being told that they could pay between $250 and $500 in exchange for a job at Metra. There appear to be multiple scammers, either working together or independently, telling individuals about purported “jobs” they could receive at Metra in exchange for payment. Complaints about this scam have been provided to the Metra Police Department.
The only way to get a job at Metra is to apply for an open position via Metra’s website: metrarail.com. Current open positions can be found by clicking on “About Metra” on the homepage, then clicking on “Careers.” Metra will only consider applications submitted through its website. Applications submitted through other means will not be considered.
Metra is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. Metra’s policy is to hire qualified candidates who are deemed the most suitable for each position without regard to race, color, sex, religion, national origin, age, gender identity, disability or any protected categories, assuming an individual can perform the essential functions of the job with or without accommodation. Prior to employment, selected candidates must complete and pass a series of pre-employment tests, which may include a physical exam, drug screening and background investigation.
Anyone who believes they have been victimized by this scam, or anyone with information about the scam, should call Capt. Brian Peters of the Metra Police Department at 312-322-6513.
