Dallas Area Rapid Transit employees and contractors delivered 16 tons of food to the Union Gospel Mission this year. The 22-year total of support for the Mission checks in at 272 tons - nearly the weight of four DART Rail vehicles or 17 DART buses.

The contributions are part of DART's annual "Friendly Food Fight," to benefit the non-profit agency helping persons who are hungry and homeless in the North Texas area.

"DART's goal of moving North Texas forward is so much more than just trips and economic development," DART President/Executive Director Gary Thomas said at the donation presentation."With the "Food Fight," "Stuff a Bus," "Santa Cops," and so many individual charitable acts, our employees are making our region, our home, better."

Bruce Butler, Union Gospel Mission CEO thanked DART employees for "helping us end homelessness one person at a time."
