The Vision Zero Network and Numetric aim to reach zero fatalities and reduce the number of preventable traffic collisions that happen each year

Numetric, a traffic safety analytics solution provider, has partnered with the Vision Zero Network to help cities across the U.S. become more data-driven in their traffic safety decisions and reach Vision Zero’s commitment to providing safe mobility, whether driving, walking, bicycling, using a wheelchair or riding transit. The Vision Zero Network is a nonprofit collaborative campaign helping communities reach their goal of eliminating all traffic fatalities and severe injuries while increasing safe, healthy, equitable mobility for all.

In 2017, 37,133 people died on U.S. streets from traffic collisions, and thousands more were injured. Numetric and the Vision Zero Network believe that traffic deaths are preventable and that saving lives does not need to be expensive. Many cities lack the tools and data access needed to effectively target dangerous roadways or measure the effectiveness of the improvements they have already implemented. The efforts of Numetric and the Vision Zero Network aim to empower cities to keep leaders and communities informed, focus on the changes that will most prevent traffic fatalities, and reach their zero-fatality goals faster.

“We are eager to become a part of the Vision Zero Network and work alongside community leaders who are as passionate about road safety as we are,” said Nate Bowler, Numetric Chief Executive Officer. “This partnership is exciting because we can help communities identify trends that are occurring on their roadways and build greater transparency around traffic safety.”

Numetric’s tools will make it easier for cities to provide important data to community leaders so that they can make smarter decisions around the policies and practices that will ensure safer mobility for all. Ultimately, Vision Zero cities will be able to have greater confidence and consensus around their traffic safety decisions.

“We are honored to have Numetric’s support because we recognize that collaboration between the public and private sectors is critical, particularly in better leveraging data to help cities prevent traffic fatalities and severe injuries,” said Leah Shahum, Vision Zero Network Founder and Director.

The Vision Zero concept started in Sweden in 1997 and has expanded throughout Europe and to more than 40 major U.S. communities, including Chicago, New York City, Los Angeles, Boston, and Seattle. The Vision Zero Network identifies the critical components of a strong Vision Zero commitment to include: political commitment, multi-disciplinary leadership, a strong action plan, a focus on equity, cooperation and collaboration, a system-based and data-driven approach, meaningful community engagement, and transparency. These components, combined with a sense of urgency, are showing promise in communities across the world in making progress toward safer mobility for all.

The partnership between Vision Zero Network and Numetric is a demonstration of the importance of empowering traffic safety professionals to be more efficient and data-driven in their efforts, as part of Vision Zero’s underlying Safe Systems approach.
