L.A. Metro’s photo enforcement program along K Line begins issuing citations Aug. 1
The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Agency (L.A. Metro) and the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department begin issuing traffic citations Aug. 1, to motorists who disobey traffic signals and make left turns across the K Line tracks.
The photo enforcement program aims to reduce the number of traffic collisions and to save lives along the new K Line tracks.
Photo enforcement cameras will capture photos of motorists and citations will be issued via mail. Citations cost $100 plus penalties and assessments. Citation issuance begins following a 10-month warning period that began Oct. 1, 2021, and ran through July 31. During that time, motorists who violated the left-hand turn traffic signals received only a warning letter in the mail.
L.A. Metro began intermittent train testing for the K Line on Crenshaw Boulevard in December 2020. As part of the new light-rail line, L.A. Metro has installed photo enforcement cameras at street level crossings along Crenshaw Boulevard between 48th and 59th streets at the following intersections and left turns:
- Southbound Crenshaw Blvd. left turn to eastbound 48th St.
- Southbound Crenshaw Blvd. left turn to eastbound 52nd St.
- Northbound Crenshaw Blvd. left turn to westbound 52nd St.
- Southbound Crenshaw Blvd. left turn to westbound 54th St.
- Northbound Crenshaw Blvd. left turn to westbound 54th St.
- Northbound Crenshaw Blvd. left turn to westbound 57th St.
- Southbound Crenshaw Blvd. left turn to eastbound 59th St.
- Northbound Crenshaw Blvd. left turn to westbound 59th St.
- Southbound Crenshaw Blvd. left turn to eastbound Slauson Ave.
- Northbound Crenshaw Blvd. left turn to westbound Slauson Ave.
L.A. Metro has implemented photo enforcement programs on its other light-rail lines and busways that have sections that operate at street level, including the A Line (Blue), L Line (Gold), G Line (Orange) and E Line (Expo).
