MARTA Police Department continues work to reduce thefts of Kia and Hyundai vehicles

Kia and Hyundai car owners who regularly park at any MARTA rail station can also expect a flyer on their windshield in the coming days with information on how to claim a wheel lock.

Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) Police Department (MPD) is continuing the distribution of steering wheel locks to MARTA patrons who own Kia and Hyundai vehicles as part of a partnership with the car manufacturers Kia and Hyundai. MARTA received 640 steering wheel locks to prevent thefts after a spike in incidents involving those vehicles. Police nationwide noticed the spike in thefts of Kia and Hyundai vehicles after a post on social media showed how to start these cars without a key.  

MPD officers will distribute the steering wheel locks to MARTA patrons who own a Kia or Hyundai model year 2011 - 2022, June 1 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Lindbergh Station. The North Precinct will also be hosting their event, Soda Pop with a Cop, at the same time to provide an opportunity for officers and community members to fellowship with one another.
