The Alameda-Contra Costa Transit District (AC Transit) is pleased to invite the community, chambers of commerce as well as businesses of every size and specialty to the first of a series of informational seminars. Known as the Contractor Roundtables, each seminar is specifically designed to: avail the community of business opportunities with AC Transit, demystify the process of securing contracts to do business, best practices to bid on District contracts, and registering to receive notification alerts once business opportunities are available.
The Contractor Roundtable seminars are a reinvestment in the East Bay economy. Years of cost-cutting – brought on by the downturn in the national economy – forced AC Transit to reduce service and shutter a vital maintenance facility. The East Bay is now experiencing an economic revitalization, one that permitted our Board of Directors to approve the largest service enhancement in the District’s history. In fact, the Service Expansion Plan (SEP) will not only increase transit service by up to 14 percent; the SEP creates an infrastructure for new jobs in the East Bay.
“We are grateful to East Bay voters for approving Measure BB,” said AC Transit board president, H. E. Christian Peeples. “From the ballot box, voters made it clear a more reliable and convenient transit network is desperately needed. So we’ve set out to build an improved network and that means contracting with business partners. We believe each contract represents an opportunity to hire locally.”
Service expansion will mean employing an array of contracts and contractors to support every aspect our network. Suppliers of office supplies will be needed along with purchasing buses, automobiles, trucks and major construction.
“The Contractor Roundtables will help local businesses better understand that the SEP along with several other transit projects are in development,” said AC Transit general manager, Michael Hursh. “We want to stress to potential business partners, face-to-face, that as AC Transit maintains its commitment of enhanced frequency and service to the East Bay we will require continued contracts for replacement maintenance parts, shop equipment, and consultant services just to name a few. In sum, there are several avenues toward local hiring.”
Each Contractor Roundtable will feature members of the Board of Directors and AC Transit’s executive staff.
Business owners representing Disadvantaged Business Enterprises, Small Local Business Enterprise, and Micro-Small Business Programs are encouraged to attend.
