The Greater Richmond Transit Company (GRTC) has opened its Downtown Transfer Station (DTS).
The official opening of DTS marks the end of years of development and construction in the creation of the first off-street home for transit in downtown Richmond.
“This transfer station was built for our community,” said GRTC CEO Sheryl Adams. “More than 5,000 passengers passed through the Transfer Plaza, and as we move into this new space and continue to expand and restore service, that number will only grow.”
Adams also thanked Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney and the city council for their continued support of transit. The DTS sits on a city-owned lot, and GRTC leases the space for $1 annually. She also referenced the station’s rider-focused amenities, which include free public WIFI, electrified shelters and real-time information.
“It has never been easier to get where you want to go," Adams said.
