The city of Tallahassee, Fla., received delivery on 30 Signature Sunset bus shelters from Tolar Manufacturing Company, which will help to provide a better rider experience on the city’s StarMetro public transit service. The shelters were purchased under a cooperative purchase agreement with neighboring Jacksonville Transportation Authority.
Tolar designed and fabricated two shelter lengths, 10-foot and 12-foot, to meet StarMetro’s size and foundation requirements and narrow footprints with solid aluminum roof panels to provide maximum passenger shade during hot Florida months. Some of the shelters provide revenue-generating advertising opportunities through oversize displays that are lit with solar illumination. Solar also powers important rooftop security lighting. Each shelter provides comfortable seating and rider convenience with 24-inch by 36-inch map cases showcasing transit ridership information.
“We’re pleased to once again work with the city of Tallahassee in providing more shelters throughout the StarMetro service area,” said Tolar Manufacturing Company’s Business Development Manager Scott Williams. “Bus shelters are a critical first impression of a rider’s experience, and the research shows better bus stops improve ridership.”
