Wight & Company Adds Vice President, Director of Transportation Planning

Wight & Company is pleased to announce that transportation industry professional James T. Czarnecky, AICP, has joined the firm as its vice president, director of transportation planning.

Wight & Company is pleased to announce that transportation industry professional James T. Czarnecky, AICP, has joined the firm as its vice president, director of transportation planning. Czarnecky will lead Wight & Company's Transportation Planning Division and Transit and Rail Practice in Chicago. He brings 25 years of transportation planning and engineering expertise to his new role, including extensive project management experience as a specialist in the development and delivery of practical multimodal solutions.

Czarnecky began his career with a focus on civil and highway engineering projects. While earning his Master's degree in Planning, he shifted his career to transit planning. Prior to joining the team at Wight & Company, Czarnecky served as deputy program manager - planning for the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) while with the program management oversight team. He led the program management for Jeffery Jump, Chicago's first "Bus Rapid Transit" project, and served as project manager for the early planning phase of CTA's North Red and Purple Line Modernization Vision Study. Czarnecky has led transit initiatives for major municipalities across the country, developing solutions for light rail, commuter rail, high-speed rail, streetcar and bus rapid transit systems. Wight & Company's growing Transit and Rail Practice has also led several assignments for the CTA, including the Red Line Extension/Environmental Impact Study and the Chicago Lakefront Corridor Analysis.

Czarnecky is a nationally certified planner through the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP). He is a member of the American Planning Association (APA), the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), where he serves on the Policy and Planning Committee and on the Major Capital Investment Planning Subcommittee. Czarnecky earned his Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design from Columbus College of Art and Design and his Master's degree in Community Planning with a specialization in Transportation Planning from the University of Cincinnati.
