DC Metro Seeking Public Comment on Development at New Carrollton Station
Nov. 1, 2016
Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (Metro) is inviting the public to provide feedback on proposed changes to transit facilities on the south side of the New Carrollton Metrorail Station as part of a proposed transit-oriented joint development project.
Metro is considering the redevelopment of Park & Ride surface lot #3 and expansion of the bus loop and Kiss & Ride areas on the south side of the station to make way for a new office building and multi-family residential building. In addition the plan includes removal of approximately 650 surface commuter parking spaces, to be replaced by 100-300 spaces in a new parking garage, designed to also accommodate office and residential parking spaces.
The proposed project concept would be constructed by a private developer and is anticipated to include approximately 200,000 square feet of office space, 250,000 square feet of multi-family residential space and 20,000 square feet of ground floor retail space. With up to 300 spaces for Metrorail commuters, the new parking garage design would also accommodate office and residential parking spaces.
Additional details about the project, including renderings, are available at wmata.com/plansandprojects.
Pending approval by Metro’s Board of Directors, construction is projected to begin in early 2017 and Park & Ride surface lot #3 would be closed during construction. Customers will be notified at least 30 days prior to the start of construction.
