Topeka Metro held a ribbon cutting Wednesday, July 11th for a new bus shelter located at SW 6th and Polk in Topeka. The shelter, as well as two new bus benches, are three of the newest bus amenities that Topeka Metro has installed in the city. The funding came from an anonymous donor in Topeka.
"This is a first that we're aware of with our transit agency receiving an anonymous donation for bus amenities. We typically apply for grants to help alleviate the cost of benches and shelters, so this is a much appreciated generous donation," said Susan Duffy, general manager of Topeka Metro. "We are thrilled that someone would invest in and give back to their community. The donor has requested that attorneys in Topeka follow suit and donate for bus amenities as well. I can tell you that bus passengers along these routes are grateful they are not standing in wet grass or mud and have a place to sit while waiting for the bus."
