The city of Albuquerque, N.M., kicked off a series of construction projects to upgrade the city’s existing ART station platforms.
A canopy, passenger information screens, seating and trash bins are being installed at the San Pedro platform, matching the amenities at other stations. Work started Oct. 11 and will continue through early December. The Department of Municipal Development is also installing HAWK signals for pedestrians to safely access the platform.
On Oct. 14, work began on the East Downtown ART station to install a canopy over the platform. Construction during the first week will consist of removing the electrical equipment in order to install the canopy. The station will be out of service during construction.
Upgrades to the West Downtown ART station will begin Oct. 25, with work on the Old Town ART station beginning the first week of November. The stations will be out of service during this time. Passengers are asked to board and exit at the nearby #66 stops.
Construction on all downtown platforms will take about two months from their initial start dates to complete. Work on these platforms will include new wiring and lighting and reinstallation of existing electronics.
All projects will require ART lanes near the platforms in both directions to be blocked off. Bus drivers will temporarily exit the ART lanes to maneuver around the construction.
