Metrolinx is making improvements to stations across the entire GO rail network, and two big components of that work are supporting GO station accessibility.
New yellow tactile edge tiles have been installed along platforms at 20 stations to ensure everyone can navigate GO platforms safely including:
- Barrie Line- Allandale Waterfront, Barrie South, Bradford, Newmarket
- Kitchener Line- Bloor, Guelph, Mount Pleasant
- Lakeshore East Line- Ajax, Oshawa, Pickering, Scarborough, Whitby
- Lakeshore West Line- Oakville
- Milton Line- Erindale, Lisgar
- Richmond Hill Line- Old Cummer
- Stouffville Line: Centennial, Mount Joy, Stouffville
Upgraded and modernized elevators are now operating at six GO stations including:
- Lakeshore East Line- Ajax, Pickering, Whitby
- Lakeshore West Line- Burlington, Oakville
- Milton Line- Streetsville
Supporting Metrolinx’s accessibility work
Improvements and upgrades are being implemented to remove barriers, avoiding the creation of new barriers and making services easier and more convenient for all customers.
Metrolinx takes public feedback into account in its accessibility planning as the annual Accessibility Status Reports and its Multi-Year Accessibility Plans are developed.
To support future accessibility work, Metrolinx has begun an accessibility audit to better understand where improvements are needed across the network.
Early station improvements mean a more accessible GO Transit
The new platform edge tiles installed as part of the Early Station Improvements project help Metrolinx meet its design standards while the elevator modernization results in more reliable elevators and an improved customer experience.
