Init Partners with Bytemark on Capital Metro Mobile Ticketing Project

Bytemark has implemented its new mobile ticketing app, CapMetro App, across all its services. The mobile tickets incorporate a QR Code which can be read by Init’s PROXmobil2 readers installed on the new MetroRapid BRT buses.

NICE Bus To Offer Mobile Ticketing

The Nassau Inter-County Express announced it has signed a pilot agreement with Masabi to bring smartphone ticketing to NICE bus riders. With the JustRide system, riders will be able to purchase bus tickets at their convenience and activate them as they board the vehicle.

“This project is one of several recent technology initiatives at NICE bus which will help transform the experience of riding transit in Nassau County. We believe our customers will embrace mobile ticketing as they have in other systems around the country” said Michael Setzer, NICE chief executive officer.

 “We are delighted to be working with NICE to put a personalized ticket machine into the pocket of each of their customers, making searching for change to board the bus a thing of the past,” said Josh Robin, vice president – North America at Masabi.

Valley Metro Celebrates Milestone for Central Mesa Light Rail Extension

On Saturday, February 8, Mesa Mayor Scott Smith and dignitaries from Mesa, Chandler and Gilbert participated in the first official rail weld in the guideway of the future 3.1-mile extension. Contractor, Valley Transit Constructors (VTC), narrated the rail weld process while welding students from East Valley Institute of Technology (EVIT) assisted and observed.

ORT Announces a Free Transit Tracking Mobile App

Ozark Regional Transit has recently activated software that will provide real-time information for its fixed-route passengers, on their mobile smartphone of choice or via the Internet.

Passengers can use the Route Shout technology to find nearby bus stops, view bus locations — in real time — and receive up-to-the-minute, estimated times for their bus’s arrival.

CTA and ATU Local 308 Agree to Reinstate Rail Apprentice Program

The Chicago Transit Authority and the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 308 have agreed to reinstate a second-chance program — rail car servicer apprentices — that provides employment opportunities for ex-offenders, people completing substance-abuse programs, victims of spousal abuse and others — a second-chance program that has already helped hundreds of Chicagoans.

“We are pleased to work with ATU Local 308 to bring back a program that has helped literally hundreds of people in need,” said CTA President Forrest Claypool. 

Robert Kelly, president of ATU Local 308, said he is pleased the lines of communication have re-opened.  "We were able to reach an agreement, one that benefits everyone involved, including the riding public. I believe this is a win-win situation and we can now move forward.”

Retlif Testing Laboratories Marks 35th Anniversary

President Walter Poggi announced the anniversary with a series of planned events. The company has a long history of EMC/EMI testing in all facets of the rail and transit industry for full locomotives, track circuits, signaling and onboard electronics.

Retlif recently was contracted to perform urban mass transit authority compliance testing on the Motive Power HSP-46 locomotive being provided to the MBTA. Initial testing will be performed at the TTCI test track in Pueblo, Colo.
