New fareboxes to be installed on all Niagara Regional Transit conventional buses and paratransit vehicles
New fareboxes are being installed on all Niagara Falls, Ontario, conventional buses and paratransit vehicles. The upgrade in Niagara Falls harmonizes all fareboxes across Niagara to a single, magnetic stripe technology, allowing Niagara Region Transit (NRT) to start to transition to a single, new local transit pass in communities where local conventional and paratransit services are provided.
The installation of the new fareboxes, funded through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program, is expected to take one week.
Riders will continue to have the following fare options:
- Exact cash or coin at the farebox
- Pre-paid ride passes using the mobile Transit App, available for download through the App Store, or Google Play
- Physical transit pass
The new local transit pass is now available for purchase in Niagara Falls at the new Customer Service storefront, located at the Morrison Dorchester hub.
“NRT staff are really excited about installing a consistent fare-paying technology for our riders. To have that in place, along with a new Customer Service location opening in Niagara Falls at the Morrison Dorchester hub means the new transit system’s commitment at amalgamation is coming online right on time,” said Carla Stout, general manager, Niagara Transit Commission.
