Icomera has acquired the UK-based design and engineering group, dg8, known for its work in the rail transport sector.
Founded in 2008, dg8 utilizes its creative and versatile team to deliver design-led projects from concept to implementation, with extensive experience in the rail vehicle market, working at all tiers of the supply chain.
“Our expertise has always allowed us to give our clients concepts that can be turned into real solutions,” said dg8 Director Mark Hoptroff. “We are eager to offer ever more innovative and high-quality solutions.”
The skills of dg8 and Icomera are part of ENGIE's desire to offer the transport sector, as well as all major energy-consuming sectors, a complete solution for operators in their own digital and energy evolutions. ENGIE supports its clients through an integrated services approach in this transition to zero carbon.
Icomera is a provider of passenger WiFi for public transport. In addition to WiFi for passengers, Icomera's connectivity offering is part of the digitalization of public transport, which helps to improve the appeal of green mobility and reduce operating and maintenance costs.
“The acquisition of dg8 strengthens Icomera’s ability to deliver the truly interconnected ecosystems of onboard systems and services required for fully realizing the potential of the connected vehicle for passengers and operators,” said Dave Palmer, managing director of Icomera UK. “Icomera and dg8 have successfully collaborated on many projects previously and now the closer integration of the teams makes us even stronger digital partners for our clients.”
Dg8 will operate as a separate business unit of Icomera UK and its 33 designers and engineers will continue to work from their current facility in Derby. The team will support system integration and consultancy projects, mechanical and electrical design work, and fabrication and installation services.
