WA: C-TRAN Implements Innovative Video Surveillance to Enhance Transit Security
The Clark County Public Transit Benefit Area Authority (C-TRAN) has selected the RoadRunner on-board video surveillance system and Vehicle Information Management (ViM) Software from Apollo Video Technology for its fleet of fixed-route and paratransit vehicles.
The system, complete with digital video recorders (DVR) and camera health and video management capabilities, will ensure C-TRAN officials have access to reliable, high quality video footage for monitoring and responding to events taking place on and around its vehicles.
Apollo Video will complete the installation - funded in part by a Federal Transit Administration State of Good Repair Grant - by the end of 2014. The 12- and eight-camera systems will be installed on the interior and exterior of C-TRAN’s 88 fixed-route and 45 paratransit vehicles. The ViM Software, accessible to authorized C-TRAN personnel, features seamless fleet-wide management of video and vehicle information with automatic downloading of video clips, tools for managing and classifying video events and access to on-board equipment, health notification and reports.
“The reliability and speed of Apollo Video’s equipment ensures that we can easily locate, store, review and transmit video efficiently. This was a critical requirement for our selection of a video and technology partner,” said Bob Medcraft, field operations manager at C-TRAN. “The Apollo Video solution clearly addresses the needs of our stakeholders, field support staff and maintenance department to provide a full-service solution including, hardware, software, project management and after-sale service and support.”
The move to Apollo Video equipment and ViM software comes as C-TRAN replaces its current DVR system in order to streamline the security process, cut down video inquiry time for C-TRAN supervisors and provide law enforcement with pertinent footage in response to incidents on-board C-TRAN vehicles, and in surrounding areas, in a timely manner. All future additions to the fleet will be equipped with the new system as well. In addition, Apollo Video has been awarded a service contract to provide maintenance and additional services including fleet-wide system checks.
“The forward and backward compatibility of Apollo Video’s hardware and software ensures the longevity of C-TRAN’s investment in security technology for the lifetime of our partnership,” said Rodell Notbohm, CEO of Apollo Video Technology. “C-TRAN required that its video surveillance technology partner provide intuitive and streamlined processes for gathering evidence and monitoring fleet-wide health; this flexibility guarantees that the system operates flawlessly today while ensuring a future-proof, scalable solution for years to come.”
