Siemens Announces Cloud-Based Traffic Management Software for Cities of All Sizes
On Sept. 8 at the ITS World Congress 2014, Siemens Road and City Mobility introduced Tactic smartGuard, a new cloud-based traffic management software increases the safety and efficiency of traffic operations.
The software reduces the complexity of traditional centralized traffic management systems by offering a simple, easy-tooperate interface. It operates centrally and therefore eliminates the need for cities to invest thousands of dollars on traffic management software, hardware and IT-related resources. The simplified software also requires no additional training so operators can be online almost immediately and non-traffic personnel such as the police department can easily access status of traffic intersections to rapidly respond to traffic incidents.
The cloud-based TACTICS smartGuard is available on fixed and mobile devices, allowing engineers and city managers the ability to access pertinent, up-to-date traffic information at any time. This flexibility allows operators to change traffic patterns in an instant to reduce congestion and increase safety. The software includes detailed traffic condition maps, second-by-second updates, and the ability to easily change traffic plans at any time. Security is certified by TUV, a worldwide safety and certification agency, and includes two-step authentication to ensure changes to the system are made only by authorized staff.
“Normally, the cost, complexity and competence required to operate, manage and maintain central traffic management systems has made it difficult for small and midsized cities to implement centralized solutions,” said Sameer Joshi, head of Siemens Road and City Mobility, U.S. “TACTICS smartGuard is specifically designed for use in cities of any size, offered as a monthly subscription-based service that is a fraction of the significant capital costs otherwise spent on a traditional server hosted locally.”
Siemens is also introducing the latest update to its advanced traffic management system portfolio, TACTICS 3.0. This new upgrade provides comprehensive status of an intersection making it easy for traffic engineering to make quick and informed decisions. Traffic agencies can centrally manage and administer their traffic intersection from a single point.
