Following a request for proposals to which GIRO provided the successful response, the Region of Waterloo and GIRO have contracted to replace the software used by Grand River Transit’s (GRT) dispatchers for operator management by adding new operations modules to GRT’s Hastus installation. In addition, GRT’s installation will be upgraded to the 2015 version of Hastus.
GRT has been a long-time user of Hastus for its scheduling needs. For operator and vehicle assignments, GRT has been using an unrelated software solution that, over the years, became limited in its ability to assist its users effectively and could not support the latest technology.
“When it came time to replace the dispatching operator-management software, it was important for us to obtain the best solution for our operations that the market could provide,” said Eric Gillespie, director transit services, of the Region of Waterloo. “Accordingly, the proposals received were evaluated using a range of pre-determined technical criteria. We look forward to the benefits that our investment in the new operations modules and in upgrading to the latest version of Hastus will bring.”
“It is very gratifying for GIRO to have the technical superiority of the solution that we proposed validated in the competitive context of an RFP,” said Stefan Gemperli, GIRO’s director, public transit software, for the Canadian market. “We are delighted that we were able to demonstrate the value of replacing GRT’s operator-management software by adding operations modules to the Hastus scheduling installation. We also appreciate the confidence that the Region of Waterloo has shown in Hastus by its decision to upgrade GRT’s installation to version 2015.”
